New Delhi. Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das on Wednesday assured that the process of withdrawing Rs 2,000 notes will be completed without any hitch. Along with this, he said that the situation of the central bank is constantly being monitored.
The Reserve Bank had announced the withdrawal of Rs 2,000 notes last Friday as part of currency management. However, the central bank had also clarified that it was not demonetisation and the Rs 2,000 note would continue to be legal tender and people could use it for making payments.
When asked about this during an event of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Das said that the process of withdrawing Rs 2,000 note will be completed without any hindrance. “We have done our assessment for this,” he said.
Das said the central bank is constantly monitoring the situation and no major issue has come to the fore so far. It has taken 131 days to exchange 2,000 notes or deposit it in a bank account, which has started from Tuesday. The share of 2,000 notes in the total currency in circulation is 10.8 percent (Rs 3.6 lakh crore). These notes can be exchanged or deposited in a bank account till September 30.
