Mumbai The rupee appreciated by 5 paise to 82.46 against the US dollar in early trade on Friday amid a positive trend in the equity markets.
Forex traders said fall in crude oil prices and foreign fund inflows also supported the Indian currency. The rupee opened strong at 82.49 and touched a high of 82.45 at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market.
At the time of writing, the rupee was at 82.46, registering a gain of five paise over its previous closing price. The rupee had closed at 82.51 against the dollar on Thursday. Meanwhile, the dollar index showing the position of the US dollar against six major currencies rose 0.04 percent to 103.38.
Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures were down 0.50 per cent at $75.58 per barrel.
