London. Inflation in Britain has come down to its lowest level in a year. However, the prices of energy and food items remain high. Energy prices have remained high since Russia invaded Ukraine last year.
The consumer price index fell to 8.7 percent in April from 10.1 percent in March, according to data released by the Office for National Statistics on Wednesday. With this, inflation has come down to its lowest level since March 2022.
Although inflation has declined in the UK, it is still not in line with the expectations of financial markets. Financial markets had estimated that inflation would come in at 8.3 per cent. The main reason for persistently high levels of inflation in the UK is food inflation.
