Medical sources reported that the city of El Geneina, the capital of West Darfur state, is witnessing successive attacks that left hundreds dead and wounded, and led to the displacement of thousands from their homes and shelters in which they had sought refuge during the previous events.

The Union of Doctors of West Darfur State in Sudan indicated – in a post on Facebook – that “the collapse of the health system and civil services and the departure of humanitarian organizations from service and their departure from the state, turning the state capital into a ghost town, with nothing but the smell of death.”

She added that the state is witnessing “the largest human tragedy in the globe, stressing that this is happening amid suspicious local, regional and international silence.”

The commission pointed out that during these events it monitored many gross violations of human rights, including “the killing and displacement of civilians and the looting of their property, the enforced disappearance and physical liquidation of media activists, human rights defenders and lawyers, and the restriction of movement of medical personnel and humiliation by beatings.”

The commission also spoke about the prevalence of “killing elderly people who are unable to carry weapons inside their homes, depriving people of access to water sources, preventing people from leaving the city affected by the siege applied from all sides, and preventing the arrival of any civil aid from neighboring localities.”

The commission spoke of killing, injuring, and kidnapping numbers of medical personnel, with the aim of forcing them to provide medical care under threat, explaining that “what happened in RouaA match on these days in 1994 is now being repeated in El Geneina with carbon, and the world’s tolerance of such crimes will encourage their recurrence in other places.
