Spanish star Marco Asensio is close to leaving Real Madrid, after he rejected his last offer to extend his contract with Meringue, which expires in late June.
The final fate of the Spanish international will be determined within a week, although Spanish media reports confirm the player’s departure in the summer.
The main dilemma with Asensio in the “Bernabeu” is that he does not get permanent playing minutes with the team, and Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti usually involves him as a substitute or sits him on the bench, and this is the reason that will be decisive in the decision of the owner of the number 11.
A number of Premier League teams and Paris Saint-Germain want to sign Asensio, 27, who runs his famous Portuguese business, Jorge Mendes.
And the Spanish newspaper “Marca” revealed – earlier this May – that Aston Villa, led by Spanish coach Unai Emery, was one of the first teams wishing to include the Spanish winger in the summer Mercato.
In turn, the ESPN sports network reported that the Parisian team had already entered into negotiations to include the player.
Asensio joins a list of players that includes Dani Ceballos, Nacho and Mariano Diaz, whose contracts expire in late June, and their future is in the wind, while French Karim Benzema, German Toni Kroos and Croatian Luka Modric extended their contracts for an additional year.
In the event that Asensio’s departure is confirmed, he will write the final chapter in a novel that spanned 7 years, during which he won 17 titles, including 3 in the Champions League. Asensio reached the “Royal” in the 2016-2017 season, a year after his loan to Espanyol.
After the departure of Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo in the 2018-2019 season, Asensio was a Yemeni who wanted to be essential, but things did not go as desired by the Spanish winger, and he suffered a knee injury in 2019 that kept him out of action for 10 months, before he returned with time to his level and scored decisive goals in all competitions, but the legendary performance of the Brazilian duo Vinicius and Rodrigo contributed to not relying on him as a mainstay.
