New charges against Trump.. What’s new about them? Will it block the way for his return to the presidency?

Peter Rove, journalist and political writer for Newsweek magazine, stressed that the new charges facing former US President Donald Trump are “politicized” aimed at preventing him from running in the upcoming presidential elections in 2024, accusing President Joe Biden of meddling in the case.

According to the latest news, the indictment against Trump included 37 counts of possession of classified documents, obstruction of justice and issuance of false statements.

Trump – who appointed a new team of lawyers after his lawyers submitted their resignations – considered the move an attempt by the Biden administration to exclude him from the upcoming presidential elections.

In his interview with the episode (6/9/2023) of the “Beyond the News” program, Rove described Trump’s case as very serious, not ruling out President Biden’s interference in the matter, under the pretext that this type of decision is taken in consultation with the president, and that the Ministry of Justice is part of From the executive branch, stressing that the American judiciary is biased towards the institution of the presidency in the White House.

He said that Trump’s case is political, because there are other politicians who did the same actions and were allowed to continue their political lives without being prosecuted by a judicial process, led by President Biden himself, who said he had secret documents that he forgot he had, and the same applies to former President Barack Obama and the Secretary of State. Former Hillary Clinton who said she was misusing classified documents.

On the other hand, former counselor on the Judiciary Committee of the US House of Representatives, Dr. Melonie Sloan, ruled out President Biden’s interference in the new charges against Trump, on the grounds that the US presidency is completely separate from the judicial system.

Sloane described Trump’s case as complex and significant, stressing that it is not the first of its kind and that there may be additional charges against him.

The criminal case – which was brought by the Department of Justice – constitutes another legal setback for Trump, as he seeks to assume the presidency again next year.

Trump is already facing a criminal case in New York, which is scheduled to be heard in court next March.

Sloan said that Trump tried to obstruct justice by lying, but he is not a person above the law, expecting that in light of the legal pressures he is exposed to, those who support his candidacy for the upcoming presidential elections will shake off those around him.

Biden dreams of confronting Trump

As for the journalist writer specializing in American affairs, Muhammad al-Minshawi, he saw that President Biden dreams of confronting Trump during the upcoming presidential elections because of his bad record in governance, and because he – i.e. Trump – is only two years younger than him, the issue of age becomes not an issue, unlike Ron DeSantis, the governor of Florida, who is younger. The current president for many years.

Three people are competing for the US presidential elections from within the Republican Party to date, namely Trump, his former deputy Mike Pence, and Ron DeSantis, the 44-year-old governor of Florida.

It is noteworthy that the US Department of Justice is investigating whether Trump mishandled classified documents he kept after leaving the White House in 2021, and part of the investigation considered whether Trump or others sought to obstruct the government’s investigations.

In the United States, a 1978 law requires all US presidents to send their letters, emails, and other business documents to the National Archives, and another law related to spying prohibits keeping classified documents in unauthorized and unsecured locations.
