Today, Tuesday, the activities of the 32nd session of the Doha International Book Fair kicked off under the slogan “With Reading We Rise”, at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center, with the participation of more than 500 publishers from 37 countries.
And under the auspices of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, oversaw the opening of the Doha International Book Fair, visited the exhibition pavilions, and was briefed on what it includes of Qatari, Arab and foreign publishing houses, and on the latest publications and books. Manuscripts belonging to government agencies, Arab and international cultural institutions, and embassies accredited to Qatar.
In this year’s edition, the exhibition aims to consolidate the status of culture in the country, and to confirm the pivotal role of knowledge in the renaissance of Qatari society. The exhibition was launched for the first time in 1972 to be a cultural and intellectual beacon in Qatar and the region.

This year, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will be the guest of the exhibition edition, and will participate in a special pavilion that includes a collection of various books, as well as performances by poets and narrators who present different aspects of their country’s culture.
The exhibition, which runs until June 21, presents a rich and varied cultural program, as the main stage hosts 37 cultural, scientific, literary and social seminars, in addition to poetry evenings, as well as the activities of the cultural salon, which amount to 116 activities that include seminars, cultural sessions and the launch of new publications.

On the sidelines of the exhibition, 48 workshops and 87 performances will be held in the Children’s Oasis, including artistic workshops, activity spaces and a puppet theater. Al-Mutanabi Street will also host 6 libraries from Baghdad. It is planned that during the “Live Cooking” event, 28 performances will be held with the participation of 28 chefs.

The 32nd edition is the largest edition of the fair, with hundreds of local, Arab and international publishing houses participating, with about 180,000 titles and 750,000 books registered.
Many ministries and state institutions are participating in the exhibition, where Qatari institutions, along with publishing houses, present their latest publications in the fields of knowledge and science. On the presence of musical instruments and artifacts, while the central area of the exhibition witnesses artworks of plastic arts and photography, in addition to playing the lute and violin.

This year, the Doha International Book Fair offers many public services to the public, including a reading guide service, an ask me service, in addition to a mobile phone application to search for books, public service (Al Hamali), and free parking for the public.
