Afghanistan.. Appointing an interim prime minister after Akhund requested his dismissal

An Afghan government official said that Mawlawi Abdul Kabir has been appointed as the interim prime minister.

And that official explained to Al-Jazeera that the current Prime Minister, Mullah Muhammad Hassan Akhund, had asked to be relieved of his post for health reasons.

The Taliban appointed Akhund as the “acting” prime minister of the government in September 2021. He belongs to the Babur tribe, and was born in the Shaoli Kot district of Kandahar state, in the south of the country.

Mullah Akhund was among the 6 personalities who founded the Taliban movement in the nineties of the last century, led by Mullah Muhammad Omar.

No country has yet recognized the Afghan interim government formed by the Taliban after it regained power in August 2021, following the withdrawal of US forces from the country after 20 years of existence.
