The United States condemned the attack on the Turkish diplomatic mission in New York City, which is represented by the “Turkish House”, according to the Anadolu Agency.

US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller described, in a press statement, yesterday, Monday, the attack on the Turkish house as vandalism.

Miller said that Washington condemns the sabotage, and that violence against diplomatic missions inside the United States is a crime punishable by law.

Earlier Monday, the Turkish consul in New York, Rehan Ozgur, announced that the attack on the Turkish House was limited to material damage.

Anadolu Agency quoted Ozgur as saying that the attack took place by an unknown person who smashed with an iron rod 12 glass panels at the entrance gate and the facade overlooking Street No. 46.

After being informed of the attack, the New York Police Department took security measures around the building.

In turn, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu called on the US authorities to identify the perpetrators of the attack on the “Turkish House” in New York as soon as possible, and to provide the necessary protection for the Turkish diplomatic missions on its soil.

Cavusoglu said in a tweet, on Monday evening, that the Turkish House was subjected to a “despicable” attack, which smashed the building’s entrance glass. He added, “We expect the United States to quickly identify the perpetrators of the attack and provide the necessary protection for our diplomatic missions as the host country.”

The “Turkish House” was opened on September 20, 2021, and is located opposite the United Nations headquarters and includes the headquarters of the Permanent Representative of Ankara to the United Nations and the Turkish Consulate General in New York.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in a speech during his participation in the opening ceremony at the time, that the new building of the Turkish House in New York reflects Turkey’s rising strength, and indicated that this edifice will be a new symbol of the diplomatic weight of Turkey, which is growing, advanced and strong.
