Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said today, Monday, that his country may conduct a prisoner exchange with the United States soon, if Washington shows goodwill.
This came a day after Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei hinted at the possibility of reaching a nuclear deal with the West.
“As for the issue of prisoner exchange with the United States: Negotiations are under way through mediators… If the other party shows the same seriousness and goodwill, this can happen in the near future,” Kanaani said.
Among the Americans detained in Iran is Siamak Namazi, an Iranian businessman with US citizenship, who was sentenced in 2016 to 10 years in prison on charges of espionage and collaboration with the US government.
