A spokesman for the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that the Ukrainian forces lost 9 tanks, including 4 German “Leopard” models, during the Russian forces’ repulsion of attacks in Zaporizhia and southern Donetsk province.
The Russian spokesman added that the losses of the Ukrainian side on the last day amounted to 300 soldiers and 9 tanks, including 4 Leopard tanks.
According to the same spokesman, during the day, Russian forces repelled 5 Ukrainian attacks in the regions of Klychevka and Dubovo-Vasilivka in southern Donetsk, and more than 200 Ukrainian soldiers were killed, and Russian air defenses shot down a Ukrainian fighter in the Platonovka region in the province that forms with Lugansk Province the Donbass region.
And the Russian Ministry of Defense published pictures that it said were of the extent of the destruction of Ukrainian equipment during the clashes that took place south of Donetsk, and said that 12 American-made Bradley tanks were completely destroyed.
For its part, the Ukrainian army acknowledged that there had been losses, but said that the Russian army was deliberately exaggerating them.
Bakhmut Front
A spokesman for the Eastern Ukraine Operations Command, Serhiy Cherivati, said that the Ukrainian forces advanced about 1,400 meters towards the Bakhmut region from different directions, taking advantage of the Russian forces’ exchange operations there. Cherivati added that his forces killed 138 Russian soldiers, and that the Russian bombardment continues on the positions of the Ukrainian forces and the cities and towns surrounding Bakhmut.
And in the Zaporizhia canton in southern Ukraine, the commander of the “Tavria” region, Oleksandr Tarnavsky, said that his forces carried out more than 1,400 artillery and missile strikes, and inflicted losses on 7 companies in the Russian army, between dead and wounded, in the Tarasivka region, south of the province.
Tarnavsky added that 72 units of Russian military equipment were destroyed, including 19 tanks, as well as 3 ammunition depots.
On Saturday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky gave the strongest signal yet that the reported Ukrainian attack was underway.
Zelensky said that counter-attack and defensive measures are currently being applied, but he kept quiet about the course and details of this attack.
Ukraine has been saying for months that it is planning to launch a major counter-offensive to recapture territory that Russia controlled in the south and east, but it imposes strict secrecy on the operations and denies that it has already started its main operation.
On the other hand, the Russian army has been talking about large-scale attacks on its positions for 6 days, especially on the southern front (Zaporozhya), where weapons sent by Western countries are used.
In a related context, said Vladislav Shabsha, governor of the Kaluga region, north of the Russian capital, Moscow, that a drone crashed in the early hours of Sunday morning near the village of Strelkovka. “According to preliminary information, there were no injuries,” the governor added.
Medvedev threatens
Yesterday, Saturday, Dmitry Medvedev, deputy head of the Russian Security Council, threatened to launch strikes against European countries if NATO forces sided with Ukraine in the war with his country.
The Russian official’s warning came as a comment on the statements of former NATO Secretary-General Andrei Fogh Rasmussen, who said that some NATO member states may send forces to Ukraine individually.
Medvedev asked whether “the opinion of the residents of these countries will be taken into account in such a step.”
